Discover Aveiro

Aveiro is a quietly captivating city on Portugal's central coast, often called the Venice of Portugal for its graceful network of canals. Wander the waterways on a traditional Moliceiro boat - the painted prows tell local stories as you glide past Art Nouveau houses, salt pans and artisan workshops. The city moves at a gentle pace, but rewards the curious with colour, craft and coastal light.

Do not miss the Art Nouveau walking route through the historic centre, where decorative tiles and wrought-iron balconies reveal the wealth of Aveiro's 19th-century maritime trade. The Art Nouveau Museum offers a deeper look at this elegant architectural chapter. For a different perspective, the Cais dos Botiroes pier and the old fish market quarter show the working heart of the city alongside its more romantic side.

Nature is close here. The Ria de Aveiro lagoon shimmers with birdlife and traditional salt harvesting. Further south, the long sandy bar of Barra Beach draws surfers and sunset walkers. Between city and coast, you will find a landscape of water, wind and wide skies that feels distinctly Portuguese and refreshingly calm.
